Tuesday, 17 November 2015 by Mark Sandiford
Auckland's night markets are growing in popularity, so much so
that one is held every night of the week, each one in a different
location.
This extensive reach delivers a unique night experience to
various areas of the city, no matter where you live, a night market
is never too far away. So let's break it down:
- Monday -
Onehunga
- Tuesday - Mt
Wellington
- Wednesday - Botany Town
Centre
- Thursday -
Henderson
- Friday -
Papatoetoe
- Saturday -
Pakuranga
- Sunday -
Glenfield
Start and end times vary slightly for each venue, so check out
the Night
Market website for specific start and end times. For a simple
reference markets start at either 5 or 5:30pm and end at either
10pm or 12am.
There is a growing appreciation in the country (if not the
world over) for markets that deliver quality food, fashion and
fun.
Why so popular?
Night markets are the newest incarnation of the 'market' format
here in New Zealand, despite night markets being a decade old
institution, particularly in Asian based countries like Singapore,
Malaysia and Thailand. Being somewhat behind the trend until
recently we are definitely making up for it now in enthusiasm,
availability and variety.
The Auckland night
markets offer locals and visitors alike delicious authentic
food of Asian, Indian and Pacific origin, they offer arts and
crafts, jewellery, clothing, fashion accessories, mobile phones,
fresh produce and much more.

The markets also boast a family friendly environment accompanied
by free, live entertainment.
As the weather warms up, we are less inclined to stay home
huddled up in front of the telly, but rather look for fun, free and
engaging activities that get us out of the house to enjoy the great
things this city has to offer.
The night markets offer An Alternative to the norm
A fun, food and fashion based alternative, the Auckland night
markets are an escape from the house that all members of the family
will be happy to join in. Whether your motivation is a tasty and
affordable meal or the need to satisfy your shopping urges, the
night markets have it in abundance.

Set-up in car parking lots under shopping centres, the night
markets are an all weather outing option that will fill your
evenings with colour, noise and vibrancy.
Who goes to the night markets?
Popular with families, couples, groups and singles, the real
question becomes 'who won't be there'. And with a night market held
each night of the week in different areas of Auckland city, the
demographic may change depending on what night you choose.
Auckland city is very suburb specific and typically within each
suburb are all the amenities and shopping you will ever need. The
night markets aid the city in delivering a unique experience, city
wide that keeps each suburb vibrant and engaging.

If you are visiting Auckland, we can
recommend a night market as a trip into the suburbs that's worth
making. If you live in the suburb in question then it's an easy
choice for you.
If you live outside the city, travelling to the market is easy
especially if you're driving or if you are uisng public transport,
check times and
dates.
If you are a guest at Kiwi International Hotel
then we do recommend a trip to any of the markeets, as an
alternative to the city centre scene, if or no other reason than to
travel out and explore more of what this city has to offer and meet
some of the great people that live within it.
